Indoor Air Quality - Setting the tone for the health of your home

We spend 90% of our time indoors - at work, at home, during normal daily life activities, so the quality of your Indoor Air Quality is important for the health of your whole family.

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) conditions that can easily fall out of balance.

Too much or too little humidity, improper ventilation or contaminants, (including chemicals off-gassing from normal household appliances), can all have an impact on the health of you families, friends and and even your house.

The impact can vary significantly, from some simple dryness of skin, to the spread of contagions, heightened allergies or jambing doors and squeaky floors. Knowing the factors that have an impact on indoor air quality can help you make better decisions about the indoor comfort solution that’s right for your home.

Modern building practices mean that buildings are built more tightly for improved energy-efficiency. However, as a result there is a lower exchange of indoor and outdoor air - which in turn has led to an increase in poor indoor air quality. Building structures may be less expensive to heat and cool, but fresh air is sealed out and air pollutants, excessive humidity or overly dry conditions build up inside.

A few useful points to know...

A few useful points to know...

The importance of Indoor Air Quality is different for everyone - hence, the variety of options available. To help you, here are a few quick facts to consider.

  1. Dust mites die at humidity levels between 40 and 50 percent. So, if you have a dust mite, mold or mild allergy problem, check your humidity levels often and don’t let the humidity rise beyond 40 percent.
  2. Hydronic is a fully closed system which is quiet, dustless and provides continuous ambient heating, making it the heater of choice for those with allergies.
  3. Ultraviolet light kills 99% of bacteria, viruses and mold spores and is very efficient. It works because these lights produce a wavelength of 185-254 nanometers, which renders these organisms sterile. When organisms can no longer reproduce, they die.A MERV (filter) rating of 13 to 16 is considered a high-ranking filter and can remove up to 75 percent of all airborne particles 0.3 microns or greater from the air.
  4. HEPA filters can capture up to 99.7 percent of all contaminants 0.3 microns or greater using a sophisticated mat of fibres arranged in a specific configuration.

A point to finish on - if you have not considered the quality of your Indoor Air Quality....then there is a very good chance that no-one else has either. Just consider what you and your family may be breathing now!
